Hot rolled or forged steel has undesirable characteristics which can be eliminated or modified by cold finishing to make a product more acceptable to the engineering industry. Because of its enhanced appearance, cold finished steel has become known as bright steel. Some of the properties are:

• Improved surface finish and scale free condition.
• Improved accuracy of section, size and degree of straightness.
• Enhanced mechanical properties.
• Better machinability arising from cold drawing or cold rolling.

The largest consumption of cold finished bars is in unalloyed carbon steels, or carbon steels modified to improve machinability. Bright steels are available as cold finished bars and our sales team will be happy to discuss your requirements.
